Today, the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences and Arts, together with the Research Center “History of the Great Steppe”, held a scientific and educational event titled “The Chagatai Language – The Voice of the Ancestors.”

The purpose of the event was to familiarize students more deeply with the historical, literary, and cultural significance of the Chagatai language, which represents a shared heritage of the Turkic world, as well as to support students’ academic pursuits and scientific interests.

The event served as the final stage of the “Chagatai Language” course, which was offered free of charge at the university. The course began on October 20 and took place twice a week. Throughout the training, instructors and students mastered the basic letters of Chagatai script, phonetic features, reading techniques, and basic translation skills. Participants studied the structure of Chagatai manuscript texts, their graphic features, and linguistic norms, and practiced working with historical sources.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Social Development and Student Affairs Erkyn Zhumankulova, Director of the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences and Arts Bakytzhan Zholdybayevich, and the program leader of the Department of History Berik Temirkhanovich.

During the meeting, students demonstrated the knowledge they had gained by translating texts from Chagatai into Kazakh and created a platform for exchanging ideas. At the end of the event, active students who successfully completed the initial stage of the course were awarded Letters of Appreciation.
