Mission of the Department
To train leading biology teachers and highly qualified specialists in the field of biological research who are capable of creating, developing, and disseminating advanced knowledge and values in education and science for the benefit of the country and the world.
Information on the Teaching Staff Implementing Educational Programs: The qualifications of the Department of Biology’s teaching staff constitute a fundamental basis for ensuring the quality of educational services. The core staff of the Department of Biology consists of highly qualified academic and teaching personnel and researchers competent to address a wide range of professional tasks. The proportion of teaching staff holding academic degrees and academic titles is 60%. G.U. Baitasheva, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, and A.N. Kaliyeva, PhD, Associate Professor, are recipients of the title “Best University Teacher.” Professional development of the teaching staff is carried out systematically and includes advanced training courses, training seminars, and internships. Over the past three years, 100% of the teaching staff have completed professional development programs.
Research Activities of the Teaching Staff: The teaching staff of the Department of Biology conducts research in several areas.
In particular, research activities are carried out jointly with students to study the biological characteristics of medicinal plants of Kazakhstan. The results of these studies are integrated into the educational process and used to develop recommendations for the use of medicinal plants as medicinal plant raw materials.
New areas of research include the projects “Study of Lactic Acid Bacteria for the Production of Traditional Fermented Milk Beverages” and “Scientific and Methodological Approaches to Research Activities of Kazakhstani Teachers in Biology Teaching and Learning Practice.”
In addition, the Department implemented a project funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan entitled “Efficacy of Flavonoids and Tannins of Agrimonia Asiatica Juz. as Pharmacological Raw Materials of Kazakhstan,” under the supervision of A.N. Kaliyeva, PhD, Associate Professor. The implementation period was 2021, with a total funding amount of 8 million KZT. N.S. Mamytova and Master’s student A.E. Nurmanbek also participated in the project.
Research Conducted under the University’s Internal Grants: Project: “Conducting Scientific and Production Research to Improve the Environmental Conditions of Almaty City and the Health of Its Population Based on the Lake Agrobiological Station.”
The project was led by A.M. Kalekeshov, Candidate of Biological Sciences and Program Leader. The implementation period was 2023–2024, with a total funding amount of 3 million KZT.
The project involved academic staff and students, including A.S. Musina, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor; G.U. Baitasheva, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor; A.N. Kaliyeva, PhD, Associate Professor; A.A. Sartayeva, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor; E.A. Kyrbasova, PhD, Associate Professor; doctoral student A.E. Smagulova; and students A. Yergaliqyzy and K. Perdebay.
