A meeting between the leadership of the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University (QyzPU) and a delegation from Sussex University (United Kingdom) took place at QyzPU.
The event marked an important step in strengthening partnership ties between the two universities and expanding collaboration in the fields of teacher education and scientific research.
From QyzPU, the meeting was attended by Acting Chairperson – Rector Sabit Suatai, Head of the Department of International Cooperation Saltanat Jakubayeva, Director of the Postgraduate Education Department Moldir Abdraimova, and Head of the Center for Internationalization of Educational Programs Aliya Zadakhanova.
Representing Sussex University were Professor Simon Thompson, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs and Acting Deputy Head of the School of Education and Social Work, and Associate Professor Keith Perera, Head of the Department of Education.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of academic partnerships, implementation of joint master’s and doctoral programs, and the prospects for establishing a Joint Graduate School of Education at QyzPU.
Additionally, the initiative to implement the Split Site Joint PhD in Education and Pedagogy program for 2026–2030 was considered. The program will allow doctoral students to conduct research under the joint supervision of Kazakh and British mentors.
Professor Simon Thompson emphasized that the partnership with QyzPU opens new opportunities for exchanging pedagogical experience, carrying out joint research projects, and enhancing academic mobility between the two universities.
It should be noted that collaboration between QyzPU and Sussex University has been successfully developing since 2023. That same year, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, professional development courses were implemented, the “500 Scholars” program was launched, and joint initiatives were carried out under the British Council’s InterLinks Small Grants project.
