In honor of Librarian’s Day, celebrated on October 24, the Seraly Kaniev Scientific Library of the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University (QyzPU) organized a series of meaningful events as part of Open Access Week.

The main goal of the celebration was to promote the ideas of open access to knowledge and science, expand opportunities for scientific information exchange, and foster a culture of using modern electronic resources.

Library Director Asem Otegenova delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the spiritual and educational role of librarians in society. She also highlighted the importance of open science and open data in the university’s educational process.

The day’s program included the following events:

  • Cultural and educational program “Librarian’s Day: A Celebration of Spirituality”;
  • Seminar “Open Access to Knowledge and Science: The Library’s Portfolio”, held within the framework of Open Access Week under the theme “Whose Knowledge Belongs to Us?”;
  • Book Fair dedicated to Librarian’s Day.

During the seminar, the university’s faculty, master’s, and doctoral students were introduced to new opportunities for accessing scientific and informational resources through presentations by representatives of Clarivate, EBSCO Publishing, and Next Day Solutions.

As part of the event, an exhibition of new additions to the library’s collection was organized, featuring textbooks, monographs, and works of fiction related to educational, scientific, and cultural fields.

A highlight of the celebration was the book fair featuring leading Kazakhstani publishing houses — Alash Book, Lantar Books, Qasym Kitap, Otbasy Khrestomatiyasy, Kemel Kitap, Mazmұndama, and Arman-PV — which showcased their latest publications.

Students from the “Library Science” educational program prepared a concert program, bringing joy and a festive atmosphere to the guests while emphasizing the event’s cultural and spiritual significance.

The celebration concluded with the presentation of Letters of Appreciation and Certificates of Honor to active faculty members and students.
