The II Annual City Scientific and Practical Conference titled "Developing Teaching and Learning through Lesson Study" was held at the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University with the support of the Almaty City Department of Education. The event aimed to discuss current issues related to the implementation of the Lesson Study approach in educational practice and to foster experience sharing among teachers and future educators.

More than 300 participants took part in the large-scale conference, including leading scientists, experienced teachers, heads of educational institutions, and students majoring in pedagogy.

Lesson Study is an approach focused on the professional development of teachers. It not only enhances the quality of the learning process but also deepens subject knowledge and pedagogical competencies.

The main goal of the conference was to exchange experiences in implementing Lesson Study, analyze achieved outcomes, and identify prospects for integrating this method into educational institutions at various levels.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Dauren Sagyngaliev, Director of the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Almaty City Department of Education, and Lazzat Zhilkybayeva, Akim of the Zhetysu District. They emphasized the importance of innovative initiatives in education and the value of partnerships.

The conference featured plenary sessions, discussion panels, and poster presentations. On these platforms, students and experienced teachers shared the results of their Lesson Study projects and practical insights.

The official opening of the conference was conducted by Gulmira Qanay, Chair of the Board and Rector of the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University. In her keynote speech titled "A teacher changes the world by exploring their own experience", she emphasized:

“For the third consecutive year, our students are presenting Lesson Study-based projects instead of traditional theses. This helps them develop both research and practical skills. Today, our students and teachers from the Almaty region are sharing the outcomes of their lesson research. This is an important step in the professional development of future educators.”

During the strategic session, representatives of private schools and educational centers discussed how they successfully implement Lesson Study in their practice.
Irina Kim, HR Director of the “New Generation School (NGS),” noted:

“We have been closely collaborating with the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University for several years under a memorandum of understanding. Graduates from this university complete their teaching internships with us, and many are already part of our staff. These are well-prepared, highly qualified specialists. We are ready to continue this partnership and provide opportunities for the professional growth of future educators.”

Participants of the conference highly appreciated the level of organization, the relevance of the topics raised, and the practical value of the materials presented. The Lesson Study method is seen as an effective tool for improving the educational process by bridging scientific research with school practice. This event marked an important step in developing a community of teacher-researchers and strengthening the link between academia and the education system.
