The Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University has launched an innovative initiative aimed at integrating theory with practice — the “3+1” pilot project. The primary goal of this project is to ensure the early professional adaptation of future educators, enhance the quality of education, and prepare competitive specialists for the labor market.
Under the project, students receive theoretical training during the first three years, and in the fourth year, while continuing their university studies, they are formally employed in schools. This allows students to simultaneously study and gain hands-on professional experience. The model benefits all parties involved: students gain real work experience and build their résumés, schools can assess and train potential staff in advance, and the university graduates highly prepared and experienced professionals.
The first results of the project are already visible. As part of the pilot launched a year ago, five fourth-year students from the “Russian Language and Literature” education program have been officially employed. Four of them work at Gymnasium No. 15 in Almaty, and one is employed as a teacher at School No. 48.
These students are actively engaged in the educational process, conducting lessons based on the Lesson Study method and working closely with specific classes. Their thesis projects are directly linked to their work in schools, increasing the practical relevance of their research and helping address real educational challenges.
Partner schools have praised the project’s impact on the quality of teacher training and have expressed strong interest in further collaboration. They highlight the motivation and competence of the young specialists and support the idea of expanding this practical model.
The “3+1” pilot project represents a new model of teacher education centered on professional development and in-school experience. This format strengthens students' professional confidence, nurtures a love for teaching, and forges stronger ties between the university and educational institutions. It creates a solid bridge to developing successful future educators.
It’s worth noting that students who complete their practicum through this program receive high praise from employers and often have the opportunity to continue their professional careers at the same schools. This serves as compelling evidence that the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University delivers high-quality education and produces competitive professionals ready for the demands of the workforce.
