From October 3 to 6, second-year QyzPU student and young athlete Nurai Kamzaeva won a silver medal at the World Championship in Sport and Combat Sambo held in Kabupaten Bogor, Indonesia.
Nurai, who studies Physical Education and Sports at the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, shared her impressions of the competition:
“It was an incredible experience for me. Competing with athletes from around the world helped me build resilience and boosted my motivation. Both victory and defeat taught me valuable lessons,” she said.
Her preparation for the championship lasted about six months, with daily training sessions — sometimes twice a day. Despite the challenges, Nurai emphasized the importance of self-confidence and maintaining motivation throughout the journey.
In the final match, she faced a Russian athlete and lost narrowly with a score of 2:1, but considered the experience highly valuable.
Nurai has been involved in sports since the age of 11. Her coach, Akmaryal Chingiskhanova, played a significant role in her choice to pursue sambo.
“The university provided us with both material and logistical support. Balancing studies and sports isn’t easy, but with discipline and planning, it’s manageable,” Nurai noted.
Looking ahead, she aims to achieve outstanding results at both Asian and World Championships, and has set her sights on participating in the Olympic Games and winning a medal.
Her coach, Nurlan Usbanov, senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Education and Sports and Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kazakh wrestling, also spoke about future plans:
“We have many goals for the near future. We're implementing new methods to enhance the athletes’ physical and tactical training. Nurai is now preparing intensively for the upcoming U23 Women’s Judo Championship, which will be held in the city of Semey. QyzPU has a rich history of strong female athletes, and the current generation is also extremely talented. I want to express my deep gratitude to the university for its high level of support,” he said.
